Parenting A Child On The Autism Spectrum

A Little Bit About Us

About Us:

Combining my love for science and gardening in one place.

Thank you for visiting my blog.  I am the parent of a child with Asperger’s Syndrome.  My son was formally diagnosed at the age of seven, and he is now sixteen years old.  This blog is meant to give readers a perspective into the joys and challenges of parenting a child who is on the autism spectrum.  I am amazed by the amount of research that has been done on autism during the past decade, and I am thankful for people who have helped raise our consciousness regarding the subject.  While there are many news articles and television shows on people with autism, I have not noticed much reported about the parents. Instead of writing solely about my child, I have also decided to write about how parenting him has shaped my attitudes and how I find myself viewing the world.  My hope is that I can provide support for readers who are also parents or caregivers of children on the autism spectrum.  While some days are more difficult than others, I believe in maintaining a positive outlook on life and the people around me. I am in a loving relationship with a single dad, and he and his children will show up in my posts from time to time as well.

  1. Hi – I am in the process of finding wordles with positive attributes to things that my kids have. I’ve done one with ADHD, and I found yours about Asperger’s. My boy is about to turn 13 and has Asperger’s, ADHD, OCD, SPD, but man does he adapt well. I put these wordles on my door at work. Anyway, I found yours and really like it, but wanted to add a title at the top called “Awesome Qualities of Asperger’s”. Thus my question – what font did you use to create this? With your permission, I will copy your picture to Microsoft Word, add the title, put the background to black, and print. If would like I will send you a copy. And, I look forward to browsing your blog as I need some help with how to interact with my son at times. Take care – Tim G
